The Sony Bravia X90J comes with nearly everything that you’d expect from a midrange 4K LED-LCD TV. It is equipped with numerous smart features while boasting premium picture quality and an immersive viewing experience.
Design
Being a Sony television, you will expect that the X90J comes with a sliver or off-gray body to differentiate itself from its rivals, but it simply wears all black, which helps to ensure that it blends into most typical living rooms. It is quite an expansive unit, and you will be forgiven if you assumed it’s another black slab of TV. A closer inspection reveals that a lot of attention was paid to its looks. A pure black bezel runs around the screen, measuring 1cm thick on the top and sides but roughly 2cm at the bottom.
At the back of the X90J is a full array panel with local dimming while side-firing woofers and two tweeters flank the sides of the TV at the back. All ports are pointed either to the side or up, and they include two HDMI 2.1 ports, two standard HDMI 2,0 ports, 2 USBs, 1 RF tuner, Ethernet, auxiliary, and digital optical audio out. The stand’s legs can be set to either wide or narrow. For the remote, the package ships with the latest voice remote that comes with a built-in microphone and sponsored buttons for media apps (YouTube, Netflix, DIsney+, and Amazon Prime Video).
Features
The X90J is powered by Google TV, which is flashier, more vibrant, and more dynamic than Android TV. The new user interface is also much cleaner and more intuitive than before. With Google TV, you have access to tons of mainstream OTT apps including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Sony Live, and even Apple TV. There are also different music apps such as Spotify and YouTube Music.
Furthermore, this TV set comes with the Bravia Core streaming service, which Sony offers only on select televisions. Consider it an addition to your current suite of streaming choices for blockbuster movies. It’s also equipped with support for almost all smart home speakers including Google Home, Amazon Alexa as well as Apple HomeKit.
For the best media experience, Sony includes a number of picture modes so you can have the images optimized. Examples include Standard, Vivid, Custom, Cinema, IMAX, etc. There’s also the gaming mode to ensure smooth gaming.
Display & Performance
The new Cognitive XR processor is one of the major selling points of the X90J, and it does a fantastic job of processing images in a way that matches how our brains perceive things. Combined with the VA-type LCD panel with the XR Triluminous Pro engine, the colors and highlights look absolutely gorgeous. Sony TVs are known for excellent image processing, and this unit keeps to the tradition.
Viewing angles on the X90J aren’t too great, so consider sitting in front of the TV when gaming. Other picture-centric extras include a native 120Hz refresh rate, and support for all the major HDR formats including Dolby Vision.
Audio
Surprisingly, the X90J shines in the sound category, thanks to the two 10W full-range drivers and two side tweeters. The sound may not come close to what soundbars produce, but it is better than what its competitors offer.
Pros
- Best-in-class image quality.
- Cognitive Processor XR.
- Fresh Google interface.
- Enjoyable built-in audio setup.
Cons
- Slight screen glare.
- Pricier.

The Samsung Q70A is the successor to the Q70T and the midrange model in the brand’s 2021 4K QLED lineup. It doesn’t just offer a good balance between features, performance, and price but is also the fastest in terms of input lag in the Q70 series, making it a fantastic choice for gamers.
Design
When it comes to the overall design, Samsung’s 2021 QLED TVs are all very thin and sleek-looking. There may be a few differences between this model and its forebears but the Q70A retains the same functional style. Its body is majorly made of dark gray plastic, but it is well made while a bezel, which is a fraction of an inch wide, runs around the edge of the screen. With a 3cm thinner body (AirSlim design) than last year’s model, this TV does not protrude far from the wall when hung. For the stand, Samsung uses two metal feet that simply slot into place (no screws.)
In terms of connectivity, all the ports are sideways and recessed. You will get 4 HDMI ports, including one that is an HDMI 2.1-compliant, which will be included on Xbox Series 5 and PlayStation 5. In addition, the TV features an ethernet port, two USB ports, as well as an optical digital audio output. There are also Bluetooth and dual-band Wi-Fi wireless connectivity features. The TV comes with a remote that sits well in the hand and that features dedicated service buttons for a variety of media apps.
Features
Just like other QLED models made by Samsung in 2021, the Q70A brings the latest version of Tizen (6.0 at launch). It packs a range of media apps, which include Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV. Setting up the TV is easy-peasy, thanks to Samsung’s SmartThings app. Other unique features are also present — such as Multi-View with Casting that splits the screen into two, so you can watch two visuals at the same time. The TV also has an Ambient Mode that turns it into a massive JPEG gallery that can blend along with your flock wallpaper. And in addition to Bixby, Alexa and Google Assistant are also available to serve as your virtual assistants.
Additionally, the Q70A supports screen mirroring from mobile devices and PCs with MIracast/WiDi and from other iOS devices and Macs with Apple Airplay. You can stream directly from and control your PC or Mac with the Easy Connection app for Windows 10 and Remote Desktop on macOS, access Microsoft 365 cloud services, and even use compatible Samsung phones as a computer with Samsung DeX.
Display & Performance
The Q70A is a 4K TV with a native 120Hz refresh rate. It uses Samsung’s special Quantum Dot layer that creates more vivid and lifelike colors. It delivers a sharp picture with vibrant, noise-free colors that are sure to please film and TV fans.
The Q70A is quite impressive at upscaling and does an excellent job of adding subjective detail to HD sources. Somehow, it manages to disperse reflections on the screen via the semi-gloss layer. However, things can be quite different when the room is brightly lit.
Although the VA panel sends signals that the viewing angles are just average, Samsung improved on it through the inclusion of its Wide Viewing Angle technology. The refresh rate is sure to delight gamers because the return figure for game mode is just about 2.3ms. Also, the Q70A supports the basic HDR10 and the more advanced HDR10+ and HLG. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t support Dolby Vision.
Audio
The Q70A sounds good fairly good for a modern TV system, featuring two speakers with 20 watts of power in total. It produces clear and loud sounds, but you won’t get any immersive experience. Samsung tries to make the sound better by adding an Intelligent Sound Mode, which analyzes the incoming sound and your current environment and then optimizes it accordingly. While it doesn’t support Dolby Atmos, it is capable of sending Dolby Atmos from built-in apps like Netflix and Amazon.
Pros
- Razor-sharp images and vivid colors.
- Deep black levels.
- HDRD10+ support.
- Low input lag.
- Comprehensive smart platform.
Cons
- No Dolby Atmos.
- No Dolby Vision.

The Sony A80J is an amazing OLED 4K that impresses with a picture quality that is close to the flagship model A90J. It is also packed with features designed to enhance every aspect of your TV viewing, making it an interesting proposal without having to kill your wallet.
Design
Remove an average OLED TV from its feet and pedestal, and it becomes harder to differentiate it from its peers, especially when viewed square on: they’re all essentially black rectangles surrounded by thin, black bezels. The A80J fits into this description as it adopts a minimalist style with razor-thin bezels, a small company logo stamped at the bottom, and sturdy metal feet, exuding a business-class aesthetic that’s neither overly flashy nor the least bit dull. It’s also strikingly thin with a metal backplate.
A downside to the design approach is that the feet of the A80J are close to the platform so much so that they don’t allow for any cable management, but you can still use the stand to raise the border of the TV to accommodate a soundbar underneath without obstructing the screen. With regards to its connectivity options, the A80J has three HDMI ports at the rear and one at the front, three USBs, a headphone jack, a mini-jack for video/audio RCA signals, etc.
Features
The Sony A80J is powered by Google TV, which is a solid upgrade to Android TV. There is a wide selection of apps you can install at setup or later at any time including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, and more. Not only is the Google Assistant seamlessly integrated into the TV for smart home device control but the TV itself can be controlled by other smart home devices including the Google Home app on a mobile device.
Exclusive to Sony’s top-range TVs is the new Bravia Core app, which streams movies at a bit rate of up to 80 Mbps, which is way higher than any of the other streaming platforms. The service offers several Sony classic titles, but you will have to trigger a credit to watch recent movies.
Although Sony markets the A80J to support variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM), they are not actually available on the model as Sony promises that they could come in a future update but when these will arrive is unknown.
Display & Performance
Like every other TV released by Sony in 2021, the A80J is equipped with the Cognitive processor XR, which combines the AI capabilities of its previous X1 predecessor with a system that Sony calls cognitive intelligence. Sony claims that this chip understands how humans see and hear and can produce images that deliver an experience in line with how humans see and hear the world.
When you have your content optimized by the Cognitive processor XR alongside the XR Triluminous Pro display, you can expect the picture quality to impress across all viewing scenarios. It delivers great picture fidelity that it would take a lot of pixel-peeping to find any fault whatsoever.
Audio
On the A80J, the 0.25-inch thick screen becomes a speaker as Sony has two transducers stuck to the back of the OLED screen, which is aided by a small ‘subwoofer’ tucked into the back of the TV. The sound quality might not wow you but you will likely be impressed with how good the A80J sounds.
Pros
- Sharp and detailed.
- Great audio quality.
- Vibrant and excellent color reproduction.
Cons
- Gaming features like VRR and ALLM are absent.
4. LG NANO90
- REAL 4K NANOCELL DISPLAY: Bring your favorite shows to life with a billion rich colors. Get deep blacks and enhanced contrast for a more detailed picture with Full Array Dimming.
- A7 GEN 4 AI PROCESSOR 4K: Catch every detail with the smooth, crisp picture brought to you by our a7 Gen 4 AI Processor 4K. It adjusts your viewing and audio settings automatically with AI Picture and AI Sound, while AI 4K Upscaling authentically calibrates every scene.
- HOME CINEMA EXPERIENCE: Get breathtaking picture and audio that makes you feel like you’re in the action with Cinema HDR, Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos. See movies exactly how directors intended with Filmmaker Mode. And with built-in access to Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV plus, Disney plus and LG channels, your favorite content is at your fingertips.
- ULTIMATE GAMEPLAY: Stay a step ahead, where milliseconds make all the difference. FreeSync Premium Compatible for real-time action and virtually no tearing coupled with fluid 120Hz refresh rate. Game Optimizer gives you easier access to all your game settings, while the latest HDMI delivers a fast connection. Plus, you’ll get low input lag and fast response times with Auto Low-Latency Mode and HGiG.
- GOOGLE ASSISTANT AND ALEXA BUILT IN: There’s no need for an extra device – just ask your TV for music, weather, news, your Amazon shopping list, and more. Plus, conveniently control your connected home and smart devices.
If what you want in your TV is tons of features, great picture quality, and next-gen gaming experience but don’t one that costs an arm and a leg, LG NANO90 might be the TV you’re looking for. It’s an LCD TV, but the new image panel and improved light control make it a genuine contender among midrange TVs and LCD screens.
Design
The NANO90 is a deviation from the ultra-slim, gleamingly metallic LCD TVs that LG has produced over the years as there’s nothing about it that oozes luxury. It is a relatively ordinary TV with a glossy brushed frame and body in grey plastic and metal while its rear sticks out miles by modern TV standards.
Connections include four HDMIs, three USBs, RF input, Ethernet, and Optical digital audio output. The remote is still the Magic Remote, with gyro control and an active mouse pointer that makes it easy to scroll through the menus.
Features
NANO90 comes with the latest iterations of LG’s WebOS (5.0 as of the time of launch). Not much has changed about the platform from the 2019 version except for the sports feature that lets you track results and live matches of your favorite sports team, customize the notifications WebOS gives you, a better ‘Hom Dashboard’, and improve search and recommendation systems.
Thankfully, the NANO90 has a good collection of apps that range from HBO Nordic and Netflix to Prime Video and Hulu.
Display & Performance
Although most LCD TVs are usually average at best, the special IPS LCD panel that LG uses offers wide viewing angles both vertically and horizontally so you get the same accuracy of pictures from any part of your room. It, somehow, manages to do a good job with motion too, keeping edges smooth and uniform even during most testing instances. The NANO90 carries the Alpha 7 Gen 3 processor, which does well at video processing except that it is found wanting when it comes to upscaling at HD sources.
Audio
The NANO90 is fitted with a total of 20W speakers and combined with LG’s AI sound setting; it delivers a sound stage of substantial scale and dynamics that can fill a room with sounds. It also supports Dolby Atmos encoding.
Pros
- Wide viewing angles.
- VRR and ALLM supported.
- Improved backlight system.
Cons
- Poor contrast.

- INCLUDED ACCESSORIES: SAMSUNG OneRemote (TM-2050A), No Gap Wall Mount, One Connect Box, One Invisible Connection Cable 5m | For a gapless mount wall must be flat and with no sockets or outlets
When you want a more lavish television for your home, the Samsung LS03T is one of the best offerings available at the moment. It is the latest iteration of The Frame TV, a series from the Korean giant that provides the option to turn your TV into a frame in a variety of color variants. It doubles as an amazing work of art when not in use and can even blend into your space with a mixture of your own artwork.
Design
Unboxing the LS03T is a dream, and you immediately get the idea that it’s a TV that puts appearance first. Its polished black metal body gives it a classy touch-up close, but a few meters away, its minimalist design shines through, making it look like a real frame. There are no parts protruding at the rear, and you have the option to buy a variety of bezels that attach to the TV screen for a full-on picture frame aesthetic. One of the first things you’d quickly notice is that The Frame is one of the thickest TVs out there.
Spin the LS03T to the back, and you will find a set of ports that includes four HDMIs (2.0 & 2.1), two USBs, digital optical audio, and Ethernet. The TV comes with a pair of remote controls — one basic remote with all the buttons on it and a designer remote with a minimal button layout.
Features
Expectably, the LS03T runs on Samsung’s exclusive smart TV platform, Tizen, which is one of the best at the moment. It is easy to use, fast, and responsive and comes with a selection of apps that you can pin, delete and rearrange the row of apps as you wish. This gives you full control of the media apps and their arrangements. Of course, The Frame comes loaded with all the popular streaming apps and services. The TV also responds to voice commands. Simply press the voice control button to activate Samsung’s Bixby or Amazon Alexa to receive your commands.
Furthermore, the LS03T comes with an ambient mode that allows you to set the TV screen to display artwork, paintings, landscapes, or your own personal photos instead of a black TV screen. Another notable feature is the split-screen view that enables you to watch two things at the same time. This is further proof of the processing power of this TV set.
Display & Performance
With regards to the most important aspect, the LS03T uses a QLED panel and has an amazing picture quality that is incredibly sharp. While the actual picture quality isn’t all that great, the Quantum Processor 4K exhibits excellent upscaling, making pictures look crisp and clean on the screen. In addition, this TV has high brightness, which enables color tones to be even more life-like.
The LS03T isn’t the absolute best in picture quality, but it puts up a great performance that mimics what obtains with an OLED panel. At 4K resolution with HDR, the input lag is about 15ms. A seeming problem with the TV is that it has no special filters and as a result, is unable to neutralize reflections completely.
Audio
The TV provides a 20W sound output, which is enough for you to hear what is being said on TV but quite inadequate to impress an audiophile. It can be loud enough to fill a large room, though.
Pros
- QLED panel.
- Gorgeous design.
- Customizable bezels.
- Ambient mode.
Cons
- Slight reflection issues.
- No Google Assistant.

If you’re looking for a 4K TV but don’t want to part with a fortune to get a piece of the technology for yourself, the TCL R635 is a great option to consider. It delivers astonishingly good picture quality for its price point.
Design
A relatively bland mix of brushed metal and plastic, the R635 looks quite polished and about 4 inches of total depth off the wall. You will find super-thin bezel accents along the top and sides of the TV while the bottom portion is much thicker. Expectedly, the Roku and TCL logos sit around the bottom of the TV, with the indicator LED below them. Speaking of the legs, they have two different mounting locations, allowing you to either place them close together to fit on a smaller table stand or attach them to the outside corners of the TV to give it more stability.
As far as connectivity goes, you will find a collection of ports on the back right-hand side of the TV. These include four HDMI ports, a USB port, an Ethernet port, an antenna/cable connector, an optical audio output, and a 3.5mm connector for composite video input with included adapter. While TCL doesn’t say whether these are 2.1 HDMIs, they do claim support for features like AALM and VVR. The remote isn’t any different from the Roku remotes that have shipped with previous models.
Features
For its smart TV operating system, the R635 uses the Roku TV, providing access to thousands of streaming apps and services – all of which Roku calls ‘channels.’ You can expect to find just about everything from Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, and Amazon to lesser-known channels like Crackle, Tubi, and more.
While Roku has its strengths such as a robust search feature and a huge library of streaming apps, it falls short with voice assistants. The remote has built-in voice control features, but it isn’t nearly as useful as a full voice assistant like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
Display & Performance
The R635 has a big, bright 4K panel with QLED technology and with 120Hz refresh rate. It supports high dynamic range (HDR) content in HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision. Color quality is rich, vibrant, and lifelike.
Furthermore, the onboard AiPQ engine does a fantastic job at upscaling lower-resolution 720p and 1080p content to 4K. It also renders native 4k content extremely well.
For improved picture quality, the R635 comes with mini-LEDs that use thousands of LEDs instead of hundreds, allowing for full-array local dimming to improve picture quality. This means darker scenes appear without light bleed around brighter objects and overall contrast is better.
Audio
The audio system of the R635 comprises two 8W speakers that emphasize mids and highs rather than wall-shaking bass. It is loud enough to fill a room, but when you increase the volume above 80 percent, you might notice some distortion creeping in.
Pros
- Uses mini LED backlighting.
- Roku TV offers a huge app selection.
- AiPPPQ engine for upscaling.
Cons
- The sound is a little weak.
